Alexandre Paiva, also known as Gigi, is a black belt under Master Romero Jacare. Alexandre was one of Jacare’s most dedicated students and also considered one of the most technical. Among many titles during his career, the most important is undoubtedly the Middleweight World Jiu Jitsu Champion in 1999. Alexandre began training Jiu Jitsu in 1983 with Professor Jacare in Ipanema. Training an average of 8 hours per day, he began to stand out among the other students; and as a blue belt he began competing. Having a lot of success early on in his career, he was quickly noticed by all of his opponents. Alexandre was so dedicated to Jiu Jitsu, in addition to his regular training at Jacare’s academy, every Wednesday he went to train with Rickson Gracie at Gracie Humaita. In 1988, Alexandre suffered a serious injury that forced him to stop training for 2 years; ending with spinal surgery to correct the problem. In 1991 he got his black belt from Master Romero Jacare and began a new phase in his career. He was a professor at Jacare’s academy in Ipanema and the Federal Club. In 1993, together with Master Romero Jacare and Fabio Gurgel, he founded Alliance Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team
